It is the average amount of CO₂ released per kilowatt-hour of electricity delivered in a region. It varies widely: Spain (≈0.17 kg/kWh) and France (≈0.06) run on lots of renewables and nuclear, the US average is 0.394 (EPA eGRID2022), and coal-heavy grids like India reach ≈0.71. Using your own region's factor — or a custom value from your utility — gives the most accurate estimate.
