Appliance carbon emissions are the greenhouse gases released when electricity is generated to power your household devices. The amount of CO₂ depends on the appliance's wattage, how long it runs, and your regional electricity grid's carbon intensity. A grid powered by renewables (Spain ≈ 0.17 kg CO₂/kWh, France ≈ 0.06) produces far less CO₂ than one relying on coal or gas (US average ≈ 0.394, India ≈ 0.71) for exactly the same appliance usage.

It varies widely: Spain (≈0.17 kg/kWh) and France (≈0.06) run on lots of renewables and nuclear, the US average is 0.394 (EPA eGRID2022), and coal-heavy grids like India reach ≈0.71.
