Understand how your score compares to other test-takers nationally.
A score of 510+ (79th percentile) is competitive for most MD schools. Top 10 schools typically require 520+ (97th percentile), while 515+ is competitive for top 25 programs. For DO schools, 505+ is generally competitive.
The MCAT is approximately 7.5 hours long including breaks. The four sections total 6 hours and 15 minutes of actual testing time: C/P (95 min, 59 questions), CARS (90 min, 53 questions), B/B (95 min, 59 questions), and P/S (95 min, 59 questions).
It depends on your target schools. A 510 is competitive for many MD programs, but if targeting top-tier schools or if sections are unbalanced (one section significantly lower), retaking may be beneficial with proper preparation.
